Senior Network Engineer
General Hours of Work: Monday – Friday (days, with weekend, evening, night, holiday, and call time involvement)

SUMMARY:
The Senior Network Engineer performs senior level network functions and mentors and provides technical guidance to other IT staff. This position is involved in the architecture, planning, development, implementation, maintenance, support, and securing of all network infrastructure technologies. Recommends new technologies and infrastructure upgrades to meet organization needs. Assists management with complex projects and assumes ongoing support of system infrastructure. The candidate has the responsibility in all implementations to make sure firewall rules and connectivity (whether MPLS, VPN, or application) is setup and maintained. This role is accountable for ensuring uptime and availability of Avel’s network and security infrastructure.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Works directly with Avel customers to troubleshoot and resolve the most complex network and server infrastructure issues.
- Designs, implements, and maintains all voice, video, and data network infrastructure technologies.
- Designs methodology and utilizes software and hardware tools to identify, diagnose, and correct problems affecting system performance.
- Interacts with vendors and other Avel and non-Avel sites to coordinate the installation, configuration, and use of multi-site systems.
- Interacts with end-users, vendors, staff, and management at all sites to coordinate the installation, configuration, and use of multi-site systems.
- Implements and maintains systems supported by IT. Monitors the implementation to assure proper operation and adherence to standards.
- Works with the Director of IT Infrastructure to specify network system topology and design architecture, including standards and documentation development and enforcement.
- Maintains logs and device inventories, as well as appropriate documentation including but not limited to application notes, drawings, and configuration information.
- Actively participates in meetings concerning the evaluation and recommendation of network infrastructure budgets, designs, and components.
- Ensures the highest level of security for data at rest, data in motion, and data being processed in compliance with state and federal regulations, healthcare industry standards, IT industry standards, and Avel and Avel eCare policies concerning security and data integrity.
- Participates in the analysis, collection and maintenance of records as needed by Quality Assurance/Compliance personnel, JCAHO accreditation, OSHA guidelines or as may be required by law.
REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in related technical discipline is preferred.
- 5 – 7 years related experience and/or training is preferred.
- Experience in network technologies such as TCP/IP, Ethernet, routing protocols, switching, Wi-Fi (wireless), and name resolution protocols required.
- Experience in network security including firewall management required.
- Experience in server, storage, compute VDI environment preferred.
- Video conference engineering technical design and implementation experience / training preferred.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE, and/or REGISTRATIONS:
- CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional) is preferred.
- PCNSA (Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Administrator) is preferred.
- This position requires a valid driver’s license, and that the employee is insurable by the Avera Health automobile liability insurance carrier.
